Paris around 1820
As mentioned in the main Berlioz in Paris page, the
appearance of France’s capital city has constantly changed over the years. The
engraving below gives a general view of Paris which is probably close to what
Berlioz must have seen on his arrival in 1821.
This steel plate engraving on paper was made by Berkowetz after Steigmeyer. It is in our own collection.
